VECTRA® WB360 – 3D Whole Body Mole Mapping

Advanced 3D imaging to map every visible spot on your skin

At The Skin Doctor, we use the VECTRA® WB360 whole-body 3D imaging system to capture a complete, high-resolution digital record of your skin in just a few seconds. Designed specifically for dermatology, this system creates a lifelike 3D avatar of your body, mapping every visible mole and skin lesion from head to toe.

This isn’t just a “photo booth” – it’s a highly specialised medical imaging platform that supports some of the most advanced skin cancer surveillance programs in the world.

How VECTRA 3D imaging works

You step into the VECTRA WB360 booth

Inside the unit are 92 digital cameras arranged around you in a circular frame.

All cameras fire at once

In a single moment, the system captures your entire exposed skin surface in macro-quality resolution. There’s no need for multiple poses or dozens of separate photos – it’s one fast, standardised capture.

A 3D avatar of your skin is created

Specialised software “stitches” these images together to reconstruct a high-resolution 3D model of your body. Every freckle, mole and mark is mapped onto this avatar, which can be rotated and zoomed from any angle.

Individual lesions can be analysed in detail

With a click, each pigmented lesion can be virtually “lifted” from the skin on the 3D model so clinicians can inspect and measure it in detail. Where needed, close-up or dermoscopic images are linked directly to the relevant point on your 3D map for future review.

Secure storage and comparison over time

Your 3D images are stored on a secure server. At future visits, new scans can be compared side-by-side with your previous avatar, helping to detect even subtle changes or new lesions across your entire skin surface.

Why 3D mole mapping matters

Traditional 2D body photography has been used for years to help monitor moles, but it can miss areas on curved or hard-to-see surfaces, and often requires many separate images.

The VECTRA WB360 3D system offers important advantages:

Complete skin coverage in a single capture

The system images almost your entire skin surface at once, including areas that are difficult to capture with conventional photography, such as the sides of the body and curved surfaces.

Accurate mapping of every visible lesion

Each spot on your skin is given a precise location on your 3D avatar, making it easy to relocate lesions in future and ensure nothing is forgotten or “lost” between visits.

Powerful change detection

Because your entire skin is captured under standardised conditions, repeat scans can highlight new lesions and subtle changes in existing moles that might otherwise be overlooked.

Ideal for patients with many moles

Some patients have hundreds or even thousands of pigmented lesions. A 3D system is particularly valuable for this group, helping clinicians keep track of complex patterns and large numbers of lesions over time.

Useful beyond pigmented moles

VECTRA 3D is also used internationally to document and monitor other skin conditions such as psoriasis, vitiligo and extensive sun damage, because it can calculate affected surface areas and show how they change over time.
